This week I was asked by Colin McAuslan and the Queen’s University Gaels to deliver an interactive seminar to S&C interns with the goal of providing an example of some tasks you would see working as an Analyst for a professional sports team.
In my career as a sport scientist I frequently use Google Sheets as tool to perform quick analytics on smaller datasets.
I created a mock tasklist for a Buffalo Bills analyst following the 2020-2021 NFL season. By completing this worksheet and using functions like FILTER, SORT, UNIQUE, and AVERAGEIF, the students were able to get an introduction to the job of a sports analyst using Google Sheets.
Here is the link to the worksheet if you would like to complete it as well.
To complete this worksheet you will need to create your own local copy of the Google Sheets file.
